How It Works

1. Concentration

Divide vial amount in mcg by water volume in mL to get concentration.

2. Volume Needed

Divide desired dose by concentration to get injection volume in mL.

3. Syringe Units

Multiply mL by 100 to get U-100 syringe units.

Example

5 mg vial + 2 mL water = 2.5 mg/mL
Want 250 mcg, or 0.25 mg
0.25 divided by 2.5 = 0.1 mL
0.1 mL = 10 units on a U-100 syringe

How to Verify Your Spray Volume

Bottles vary. Calibrate before relying on calculated doses:

Fill with plain water using a 1 mL pipette or syringe.
Prime 3-5 times, then spray 10 actuations into a container.
Collect sprayed liquid with a 1 mL syringe to measure total volume.
Divide by 10 for your actual mL per spray.

Most bottles deliver 0.08-0.14 mL per actuation. Metered pumps are more consistent than squeeze bottles.

Nasal Administration Tips

Prime with 2-3 pumps before first use.
Alternate nostrils for each spray.
Tilt head forward and aim at the outer nostril wall.
Wait 30-60 seconds between sprays in the same nostril.
Use a gentle breath in; do not sniff hard.

Standard Nasal Spray Pump Volume

The standard nasal spray pump volume per actuation is 0.1 mL. Some specialty devices deliver lower or higher volumes, so verify your actual pump before relying on calculated mcg-per-spray values.

Standard metered-dose pumps: 0.1 mL
Low-volume pumps: 0.05 mL
High-volume pumps: 0.14 mL
Squeeze bottles: variable and less precise
